The latest news on Nick Singleton, Anthony Donkoh, Kaden Saunders and more

STATE COLLEGE — No. 7 Penn State is dealing with numerous injuries as the situation progresses UCLA today at Beaver Stadium. While it received some good news during pre-game warmups, other updates haven’t been so kind to head coach James Franklin’s team. Here’s what we know.

Four lions are back in action

Penn State didn’t have a linebacker Dominic DeLuca available last week at Illinois. This week he returned to action with a thumb on his right hand. Additionally, offensive lineman Sal Wormley And J.B. Nelsonplus cornerback Jalen Kimberare all back in action after having to leave last week’s match due to injury.

Singleton is in uniform but has not played

Penn State star junior running back Nicholas Singleton missed practice Wednesday and was listed as questionable before Saturday’s game. He did warm up before the match. But then he spent the first half on the sidelines in full pads and his No. 11 uniform. However, he missed his helmet and did not make a single shot during the first 30 minutes. We will update this message if he sees the field after halftime. But that seems unlikely. No information has been released about the nature of what he is dealing with.

In his place, co-starter Kaytron Allen has 12 carries for 46 yards. And, freshmen Quinton Martin Jr., playing in his second game as a Nittany Lion, he has one carry for one yard and one catch for three yards.

Saunders, Penn State’s punt returner, was offside

Punt returner from Penn State Kaden Saunders was the team’s starting punt returner through the first four games. However, he has caught the ball well almost exclusively due to an injury suffered during preseason camp. It is unclear if that is the reason he has to attend today’s game and watch with a walking boot on his right foot. But he will miss at least some time moving forward. In his place, walk-on receiver Jake Spencer fielded the only UCLA punt of the first half.

Donkoh sustains an upper body injury

Penn State starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh suffered an upper-body injury in the first half of Saturday’s game. He came off the field on a third down sack in favor of his left side. Trainers immediately took him to the injury tent on the sideline. All indications are that he extended his left shoulder. He had taken off his pads to deal with that and then put them back on. But he continued to massage that area on the sideline. Backup Nolan Rucci finished the first half at right tackle and will likely be there in the second half as well.
