The live forecast for Hurricane Helene looks at the track, timing, gusts and wind

Dr. Ryan Truchelut of WeatherTiger in Tallahassee is monitoring the rapidly strengthening of Hurricane Helene ahead of what is expected to be a catastrophic collision with Big Bend, Florida.

Helene is expected to become a devastating Category 4 hurricane in about 24 hours, with winds of up to 132 mph (212 km/h) and storm surges of up to 20 feet (6 meters) as the storm approaches Tallahassee and Big Bend, Florida.

To discuss the threat to life and property, Truchelut will go live here and on USA TODAY NETWORK – Florida Facebook pages at 9:30 p.m., including the Tallahassee Democrat, Panama City News-Herald, Gainesville Sun, Lakeland Ledger, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Naples Daily News, Fort Myers News-Press and the Northwest Florida Daily News. At the end of the forecast, he will attempt to answer your questions. Post them as a comment on the Tallahassee Democrat Facebook page or email [email protected].

He will discuss the latest developments and expected impacts to Florida cities, including the catastrophic wind, storm surge and rain hazards Helene will bring on Thursday.

“There is no modern reference point for Helene. Between Tampa Bay and approximately Cape San Blas, this will most likely be the worst hurricane impact in living memory,” he wrote in his early afternoon forecast.
