The main line shows the chemistry as the energetic Rangers take on the Canucks

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Rangers continue to bring their strength to the road this season.

After an extremely mundane game with few events in Seattle, the Rangers were anchored in a plethora of action on Tuesday night in an even match against the Canucks, with the visitors coming away with a 4-3 win.

It was an energetic game, with entertaining hockey, and the Blueshirts came out on the winning side, improving their away record to 7-1-0.

“I thought we played really well as a team,” said Will Cuylle after posting his fourth multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist, putting the 22-year-old tied with Artemi Panarin for most five-on-five . five points for the team. “The game was close, but I thought we controlled the game for most of the game, had a lot of chances and had a few bounces here and there.”

After the two teams continued to trade goals in the middle to set up a 3-3 scoreline in the third period, the Rangers broke open the scoring at 10:43 on a Chris Kreider goal.

The chemistry between Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Reilly Smith has been steadily growing, with this game-winning play being the latest example.

Zibanejad fed Smith in the high slot before the latter set up Kreider for a short-side shot off Canucks goalie Arturs Silovs.

Despite the win, Rangers have broken way too early on a number of occasions over the past three and a half weeks, conceding a goal within the first minute of the match four times in eleven games.

Tuesday night was the latest, when Canucks captain Quinn Hughes crashed in the middle of the ice and swung a backhander past Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin just 34 seconds after the puck dropped.

However, Zibanejad stepped up his game early to combat Vancouver’s quick scoring.

“In a game like this, the speed and the offense, especially for someone like Mika with the puck on his stick, he’s a dangerous player,” head coach Peter Laviolette said. “If he attacks at that speed, attacks the net, attacks the offensive zone, not only does he become dangerous for me, but other players on his line become dangerous as well. The defenders who increase the rush become dangerous.

“He can push the defense back into the offense on offense and then deliver pucks or look for something. He was good. The line was good.”

Zibanejad deflected a shot from K’Andre Miller and scored his third five-on-five goal of the season before finishing with two points on the night.

The Swedish center was all over the ice Tuesday, especially during the first 20 minutes, setting up his linemates and pushing the pace whenever the puck was on his stick.

The Rangers had a lot of open ice here and they used it to its full potential.

By connecting through cross-ice passing and being creative in transition, the Rangers consistently threatened on offense.

“We want to show our skills and utilize that (open space),” said Adam Fox, who finished with two assists and two blocked shots in the win. “We try to take advantage of that, but also remove the risk of the puck going the other way. It’s hard to stop when there’s movement in the O-zone and you’re going cross seams, which are the hardest to stop.

“I think we want to get a good mix of that, and a good mix of simplicity. Some of our goals were just from D to D, a shot, a tip or a rebound goal. Of course you want a nice mix of both.”
