Georgia Republicans appear confident that the state’s record-breaking early voting numbers will favor their 2024 presidential candidate.

“It was a record turnout, an incredible thing: voting from all over the state,” Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones told Fox News Digital. “I think the enthusiasm and the momentum lies with President Trump.”

The former commander-in-chief lost Georgia in 2020 by less than 1%, and Republicans spent enormous time and resources trying to take the country back on November 5.

A significant part of that strategy involves convincing people to cast their ballots early, a voting method traditionally more favored by Democrats.

And both parties’ emphasis on early voting has had a seismic effect. During the early voting period between October 15 and November 1, nearly 4 million Georgians cast ballots in person or absentee, more than half of the state’s active voters.

According to Georgia Votes, more than 700,000 people who voted in 2024 did not vote at all in 2020.

Meanwhile, in terms of turnout rates, the three counties are the rural areas won by Trump in 2020.

Both factors, Jones argued, were favorable indicators for the ex-president.

“We have a lot of voters who voted in 2016 but didn’t vote in 2020. … What makes me believe that they are Trump voters is that most of them … come from parts of the state that are pretty heavily Republican. strongholds,” he said.

“You start to analyze where they live, where they have been historically in terms of the Republican cards they drew in the past, and, like I said, the enthusiasm for (Trump) right now is quite off. “

Asked why he believes some of Trump’s base didn’t show up in 2020 but are now voting, Jones said, “I’ll be honest with you.” I think there’s a lot of people who felt like, you know, the president. had the victory in his pocket in 2020.

“Sometimes I wonder if that false sense of security might have hurt us in 2020.”

Nevertheless, it will likely be difficult to get a full picture of how well Republicans’ early voting strategy has paid off until after Election Day.

According to Georgia Votes, Hispanic voters make up the largest share of those who voted in early 2024 but did not vote at all in 2020, at 37.6% of that number.
