(ONN) – Ohio’s highest court has ruled in an animal cruelty case.

A new ruling is on the books that increases the penalties for animal cruelty for stray animals.

The Ohio Supreme Court has convicted a man of a fifth-degree felony for pouring bleach into a basement to make a stray cat leave.

The court ruled that the law protects all cats and dogs, not just domesticated ones.
