The temperature for the Arizona State-Kansas game is 107 at kickoff, breaking the record set in October

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Arizona State hosted its hottest October football game ever on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 107 degrees Fahrenheit for the 5:05 p.m. kickoff against Kansas.

It is also tied for the most popular game overall at Mountain America Stadium, with records dating back to 2000. The previous record – also 107 – was for a game against Sacramento State on September 5, 2013.

Triple-digit temperatures in central Arizona are quite common in early September, but this year’s scorching heat has lasted well into football season. The National Weather Service said Phoenix reached 111 degrees on Saturday, marking the 12th day in a row that a record high was broken.

The other twelve most popular kickoffs in Arizona State stadium history all occurred before September 9.
