The US intelligence chairman urges immediate action against North Korean troop movements in Ukraine

Michael R. Turner, chairman of the US Select Committee on Intelligence, on October 18 called on US President Joseph Biden to immediately respond to reports that North Korean troops are preparing to join the Russian military in the struggle in Ukraine.

North Korean forces attacking Ukraine from Russia or entering Ukraine “should be a red line for the United States and NATO,” Turner said.

Turner also cited public reports from Ukrainian and South Korean intelligence agencies indicating that North Korean troops may be moving via Russian naval vessels.

Turner called the situation “alarming” and a major escalation of the conflict and urged the US and NATO to take immediate action.

He requested an urgent classified briefing for the House Intelligence and Armed Services Committees, emphasizing the need for swift US and NATO action to prevent a wider conflict.

The head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said the first group of 2,600 soldiers will be deployed to Russia’s Kursk Oblast, where Ukraine began a cross-border incursion in August and still controls significant parts of territory.

He said nearly 11,000 North Korean troops are in Russia and will be “ready to fight” in Ukraine by November 1.

The report shows that Western-made parts were found in the North Korean missile that was shot down over Ukraine

Microelectronics made by companies from the US, Switzerland, Britain and the Netherlands were found in the North Korean missile that was shot down over Poltava Oblast.
