THE WEEKEND

Looking ahead to the weekend, a stronger front will approach, potentially bringing light rain chances, especially in the western mountainous areas of West Virginia. After this system moves through, colder air will follow, bringing us back to where we should be in late October.

A second cold front will bring even lower temperatures on Sunday.

NEXT WEEK

Overall, this pattern change marks a transition to cooler fall weather, with some systems likely to have minor impacts next week.

Some of our valleys could experience freezing temperatures early Monday morning, especially in the mountains, including the Greenbrier, New River and Shenandoah valleys.

Overall, the week will start cooler, but near average, as high pressure continues to keep things calm.

Very limited rain is expected over the next ten days, which means the fire risk remains high.

AUTUMN FIRE SEASON

The fall fire season runs from October 15 to November 30. Never burn on hot, dry and windy days and know the local fire regulations in your region. If you must burn outside, never leave your fire unattended. Remember that approximately 90% of forest fires are caused by humans!
