    Howling winds, frigid temperatures and even the chance of heavy snow could await many Americans across the country as they gather for their Thanksgiving celebrations next week.

    Forecasters said there is a risk of “uncertain weather” from an area of ​​low pressure in the mid-atmosphere across much of the country during the holidays, which will continue into the post-Thanksgiving travel season.

    For some areas, this means “the coldest air of the season,” according to the National Weather Service.

    According to AccuWeather meteorologists, a developing storm could bring a rainy and snowy holiday to the eastern half of the country.

    If the storm moves slowly it could bring lasting impacts from the Tennessee and Ohio valleys to the Northeast, but if the storm moves further south and off the Carolina coast it would be less intense but still bring rain and bring snow.

    “A storm has the potential to disrupt transit for those traveling even locally through parts of the Midwest and Northeast on Thanksgiving Day, even those chasing Black Friday deals could face travel challenges,” said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

    The weather could also hamper popular holiday parades, including in New York City, AccuWeather said.

    The National Weather Service predicted there was a moderate risk of “dangerous cold” in the northern Plains, with low temperatures falling as low as -10 degrees and feeling even colder as winds get colder. There is also a small risk of heavy snow in the Great Lakes and Northeast.

    High winds could also affect much of the eastern part of the country between Wednesday and Friday, especially in the south, away from the coast, the central Appalachians and the mid-Atlantic Ocean, the weather service said.
