There is reportedly unrest within Rangers and concerns over the team’s core plateaus

There is a lot going on around the New York Rangers these days.

First, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Rangers have made it very clear that they are interested in making moves and shaking up their roster, with the names of Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba mentioned as possible options in a move.

Now, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today not only confirmed this report, but also provided some insight into the turmoil and dysfunction within the Rangers organization.

“There is clear unrest in the #NYR organization right now, with concerns from the top over these core plateaus and increasing player/employee discomfort,” Mercogliano wrote via X. “But sources also reminded how rare/difficult major deals are at this time of year.”

Although the Rangers currently have a record of 12-6-1, they clearly did not look like the same team that won the Presidents’ Trophy last season.

Members of the team, especially those in the management group, seem to be hitting the panic button early in the year.

Mercogliano wrote that Rangers general manager Chris Drury sent a message to all NHL general managers after New York’s 6-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night that he is open for business and motivated to keep the core of to shake up the team.

At this point in the season, it’s extremely difficult to make a monumental move, especially when it comes to players like Kreider and Trouba, both of whom make more than $6 million annually.

All eyes are on the Rangers given these rumors and the potential shakeup the franchise will experience sooner or later.
