NEW DELHI: New Zealand secured a historic Test victory in India, their first since 1988, by successfully chasing down a challenging target in difficult conditions on the final day of the first Test in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The victory marked only their third victory on Indian soil in almost seventy years.

India were bowled out for a paltry 46 in the first innings, their lowest total at home, to which New Zealand responded with an impressive 402.

Despite India’s improved performance in the second innings, with a score of 462, New Zealand’s bowlers set the stage for a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
After the defeat, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant shared his thoughts on social media.

“This game will test your limits, knock you down, lift you up and throw you back again. But those who love it grow stronger every time. Thanks to the amazing Bengaluru crowd for the love, support and cheers. We will come back stronger,” Pant wrote .

Will Young (48 not out) and Rachin Ravindra (39 not out) showed composure amid the pressure to steer New Zealand to the required 107 runs after losing two early wickets.

The win was particularly impressive given the absence of their injured batsman, Kane Williamson, and underlined the team’s resilience.
New Zealand joined England and Australia as the only teams to beat India at home since 2013.
