This member of the US women’s gymnastics team will not compete in the team finals – NBC Chicago

Hezly Rivera made her Olympic debut in the preliminary round of the women’s gymnastics competition on Sunday, but unless there is an unexpected change or setback, she will not compete with her teammates in Tuesday’s final.

The U.S. gymnastics team announced its lineup for Tuesday’s finals, but Rivera’s name was not on any of the event’s four events.

According to USA Gymnastics, both Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles will compete in all four disciplines. Suni Lee will compete on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, while Jade Carey will compete on the vault portion of the program.

Rivera competed in just two events in the preliminary round on Sunday, scoring 12.633 on the balance beam and 13.9 on the uneven bars.

Alex Maragos reflects on this weekend’s US women’s gymnastics competitions, featuring an incredible performance from Simon Biles.

Biles, by comparison, scored a 14.733 on beam and a 14.433 on bars, while Lee had a 14.866 on bars and a 14.033 on beam. Chiles also scored higher than her teammate in both disciplines.

Rivera is only 16 and is competing in the Olympic Games for the first time with the American team.

The United States begins the first rotation with the vault, followed by the uneven bars, beam and a floor exercise to close.

The broadcast begins at 11:15 a.m. on NBC and Peacock.
