Time change is in a week. When daylight saving time disappears

play

Lawmakers in several states, including Florida, have been pushing for years to keep daylight saving time, or “daylight saving time,” year-round.

But none of these efforts have yielded results and in just over a week we will still be backsliding.

Here’s when the clocks go back in November and a list of states that have considered or are considering changing the laws surrounding daylight saving time observance.

When was the official first day of fall?

The first day of autumn and the meteorological end of summer have already passed.

There are two equinoxes and two solstices every year. Equinoxes occur during autumn and spring and are called the autumn and spring equinoxes. They mark the first official day of spring and the first official day of autumn every year.

The summer solstice this year was on a Thursday, June 20 at 4:51 PM EDT. And the autumnal equinox was on Sunday, September 22 at 8:44 a.m. EDT, according to The Farmers’ Almanac. The meteorological end of summer was August 31.

Will Florida change the time in 2024?

Florida lawmakers introduced a bill in 2021 that would extend daylight saving time from eight months of the year to the full year.

The Sunshine Protection Act, a proposed federal law, has not received approval from the U.S. House of Representatives or the president, but has been proposed in several congressional sessions in recent years and was approved by the U.S. Senate in 2023.

Florida will still fall back this year.

When do we fall back in 2024? When will time change?

Daylight saving time for 2024 began on Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m. EST, for “spring ahead” and ends on Sunday, November 2 at 2 a.m. EST.

Where is there no daylight saving time?

According to timeanddate.com, most of the world does not observe daylight saving time. There are 176 countries that do not observe daylight saving time at all. Japan, India and China are the largest countries on the list of places in the world where daylight saving time does not apply. Russia, most African and most South American countries also do not observe daylight saving time.

If you would like to view a world map of which countries do and do not observe daylight saving time, you can find it and an accompanying list on the timeanddate website.

Which states are eliminating daylight saving time?

Arizona and Hawaii do not observe daylight saving time. Residents of Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands also do not change their clocks.
