Time for Dana White to show fans what to expect at Sphere

UFC CEO Dana White has spent a lot of money and made big promises regarding the upcoming UFC 306 pay-per-view event at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Despite White’s declaration that fans will “never see anything like this in your life,” there are still plenty of tickets available for the Sept. 14 fight card.

One reason ticket sales for the Mexican Independence Day event are lagging is that it is in direct competition with the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga boxing match at the MGM Grand on the same night. Another reason the UFC may have trouble selling tickets for the event, which the promotion has dubbed Noche UFC, is that the cost of tickets is higher than normal for a UFC pay-per-view. One thing the UFC could do to boost fan interest in the event at the Sphere is to give fans a taste of what they will see, feel and experience when they take their seats on Sept. 14.

“Our board of directors and a lot of other people flew in (Saturday) and wanted to see where all that money was going,” White said at the UFC 303 post-fight press conference. “I explained to everyone what was going to happen and they were blown away. Everyone is so excited about this thing. It’s going to be the most incredible thing anyone has ever seen in sports.”

“We’ve put together the most rockstar team on the planet,” White added. “When I bring you in and explain to you what we’re doing. The amount of Oscars, Emmys, Grammys that the team that we’ve put together to pull this off. There’s going to be a director who’s just filming the inside of the Sphere to make people feel like they’re there.

“What we’re going to try to do will never, ever be duplicated. No one will ever do it again. There’s no point in trying because it costs too much money. It’s going to be one of the best things you’ve ever seen live in the arena, and we’re going to try to do one of the best things you’ve ever seen on TV.”

White has set the bar higher for this event than for any other UFC production. The pressure on the team getting everything in place for UFC 306 must be immense, but with just a few months to prepare, the UFC’s production team, who can do a phenomenal job on incredibly short notice, will likely knock it out of the park for UFC 306. Why not give fans a taste of what to expect at the Sphere?

A sneak preview could build interest in the event and get fans excited to head to Vegas for the fight card on September 14. If White and Co. can make good on their promises to make the event memorable, showing what fans could miss by skipping UFC 306 could encourage those reluctant to pay the high ticket prices to still shell out money for the once-in-a-lifetime sporting experience that White has promised.

So far, fans have heard, but not yet seen, what the UFC has planned for UFC 306. Someone like White, who has said he’s a visual thinker, should realize that some fans need to have an idea of what they’re paying for before they part with their money. Releasing some information about UFC 306 will only help the promotion.

Ticket prices for UFC 306 currently range from $757.50 for a seat with a “very limited view of the Sphere screen” but a full view of the Octagon, to $8,807.50 for a seat on the floor.

White said he spent $17 million on the event, which led to the organization adding a partner for the event in the form of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority.

UFC 306 will feature two title fights at the top of the 10-fight card. In the main event, UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley will face perhaps the toughest test of his career as he takes on Merab Dvalishvili. In the co-main event of Noche UFC, UFC women’s flyweight champion Alexa Grasso will defend her belt against former champion Valentina Shevchenko in a trilogy fight.
