LOS ANGELES – Baseball’s biggest rivalry on the West Coast heats up again in the playoffs.

The National League West winner Los Angeles Dodgers will host the San Diego Padres in Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series on Saturday at Dodger Stadium. It will be the third time in the last five seasons that the division rivals will meet in the postseason.

Fresh off their wild-card sweep of the Atlanta Braves, the Padres will send Dylan Cease to the mound, while the No. 1 seed in the NL will have Yoshinobu Yamamoto on his doorstep.

The Padres had the lead in the season series and won it 8-5. But the last time these two faced off, it ended with the Dodgers celebrating another division title.

The Dodgers will try to eliminate some of the postseason demons they have been dealing with. They have lost six straight playoff games, starting when the Padres knocked them out of the divisional round in 2022.

LOS ANGELES – As the Los Angeles Dodgers enter the 2024 postseason in need of pitching depth, they will be without their future Hall of Fame left-hander.

Manager Dave Roberts announced prior to Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series that Clayton Kershaw will not pitch again this season.

“Clayton has done everything he can to move this thing forward and give himself an opportunity to participate in the postseason,” Roberts said. “But where he is now, physically, the foot and the toe, it’s just not cooperating. In fact, it’s getting worse. Yes, this is it for Clayton for 2024.”
