Play connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. Every day you get a new puzzle at midnight. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.

You will be shown a grid of 16 words. Your job is to divide them into four groups of four by discovering the connections between them. The groups can be things like clickable items, names for study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle, and you have to be careful when it comes to words that fit into more than one category. You can play the words in any order so you might see the connections between them.

Each group has a color code. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult. The purple group often uses puns.

Select four words that you think go together and press Send. If you make a guess and you’re wrong, you lose a life. When you’re close to the right group, you might see a message saying you’re just one word away from the right group, but you still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, the game is over. Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen with some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today’s information Connections answers. As in Word and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

Seeing SWALLOW and BEAR on the same line made the greens pop, then the yellows were clear enough. HONK and GOBBLE cleared up the blues for me, leaving the purple group (which I found undistracting and a bit annoying) for the win.

PS One of my favorite horror comedies is Tucker and Dale vs. evil. It’s an absolutely delightful subversion of horror tropes. I still think it’s a shame that a sequel hasn’t been released yet.

The trailer contains some spoilers, so take my word for it: it’s a damn good time:
