ForbesToday’s NYT ‘Connections’ hints and answers for Wednesday, October 16

Hey, gang! I hope you’re having a great week so far. I’ve been researching rowing machines since the gym in my building doesn’t have one and I’ve enjoyed using them in the past – certainly more so than other exercise equipment. I’m about to take the plunge, so I may spend many a winter evening at home training while catching up on movies.

Today NYT Connections hints and answers emerge immediately.

Play connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. Every day you get a new puzzle at midnight. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.

You will be shown a grid of 16 words. Your job is to divide them into four groups of four by discovering the connections between them. The groups can be things like clickable items, names for study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle, and you have to be careful when it comes to words that fit into more than one category. You can play the words in any order so you might see the connections between them.

Each group has a color code. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult. The purple group often uses puns.

Select four words that you think go together and press Send. If you make a guess and you’re wrong, you lose a life. When you’re close to the right group, you might see a message saying you’re just one word away from the right group, but you still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, the game is over. Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen with some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today’s information Connections answers. As with Word and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

I discovered the blues as soon as I saw GOODFELLA, while seeing HANDLE and ANSWER side by side made the greens clear enough. From then on it was academic as the yellows were quite obvious. But I submitted the purple group before the yellow group just because I could.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of “lemon law” before, so I’m glad I handled things in the order I did.

That’s all it takes for today Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check out my blog for tips and the solution for Friday’s game if you need it.

PS Let’s do a double recommendation, just because I had the second one drafted before playing today’s game and saw that JAWS was one of the words. It’s horror movie season after all, and Jaws is an important one:

I’m a big fan of Poppy, who broke through as a YouTube performance artist and has developed into a great musician. Her 2020 album I don’t agree firmly establishing her as a genre-defying artist to be reckoned with. It was a wild shift into a mash-up of metal and pop that really shouldn’t have worked, but did so in spectacular fashion. She has come a long far away from, for example, ‘Lowlife’. It is now clearer than ever that Poppy has one foot firmly in metal/rock and the other fully in pop.

This week, the Grammy nominee released a new synth-pop song called “Crystallized” and I can’t get it out of my head. All four songs Poppy has released so far from her new album are great, and I can’t wait to hear the whole thing next month. Negative spaces could well be her best album to date:
