ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1212: Hints, Clues, and Answers for Sunday, October 13

Monday is back, too bad. It’s not like I care at all about the weekend or the work week when it comes to work. I work every day. I make no distinction. Often my weekends are busier than my week because so much stuff is out during the weekend and I’m packing in time for family and friends and everything else. In some ways, Monday could be the start of my actual weekend!

But I do have to get up to take the kids to school and right now, after a hectic weekend, I could use some extra sleep. Oh yes!

Let’s solve this Wordle!

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

TROPE didn’t give me the best start, but it wasn’t the worst either. With 154 words anything was possible. Unfortunately for your humble narrator, STAIN didn’t do it, leaving me with a whopping twenty words and only two yellow boxes. I suppose I blamed myself at this point because the best word I could think of was FAULT and that did the trick – or almost. Only one word remained: GAMUT for the victory!

Competitive Wordle Score

Total wash today. I get 0 points for guessing four points and because the Wordle Bot also guessed four points, I get 0 points for the tie. Big fat zeros all around!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. In case of a draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
  • Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points: positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word gamma comes from medieval music theory. It comes from the combination of ‘gamma’, the Greek letter used to represent the lowest note in the scale, and ‘ut’, the first syllable of a medieval hymn that used solfege (a method of teaching music ). Over time, gamma extended to the full range of notes, and later came to be used more generally to describe any complete range or spectrum.
