ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1243 Hints, clues and answers for Wednesday, November 13

Today is Thor’s day. That means yesterday was Wordle Wednesday. I’ve come up with a riddle for yesterday’s namesake, Odin, to keep things interesting. Here was the riddle:

“We see without eyes and fly on dark wings,

Gaining knowledge of farmers and kings.

We serve the All-Father with news from afar,

If you know his name, you know who we are.”

The answer: Huginn and Muninn, Odin’s pair of ravens who serve as his messengers and spies. A bit tricky, I know, if you’re not into Norse mythology. I felt very connected to that mythos yesterday and even wrote a poem about the wolf Fenrir, if you want to read it. (It’s not whole about Fenrir, but the background of the wolf and Odin help create the background and atmosphere of the poem). In any case, extra points if you solve this. Now let’s solve this Wordle!

How to Solve Today’s Wordle

The tip: Look at the back of your throat.

The clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

Difficult word today, and I was a bit lucky, even though it took me four tries. However, STORE had no luck at all. No green or yellow boxes, 330 words to go. Even though CHAIN had used up almost all the vowels, I was still left with forty. ALBUM lowered that to just two, although it wasn’t until this point that I came up with UVULA and thought it should be the only word left. This was confirmed when it turned out to be the Wordle, but when I later went to Wordle Bot it turned out that I actually had two options for my fourth guess. The other was GULAG, which I almost certainly would have chosen if I had come up with it! I was lucky!

Competitive Wordle Score

Like yesterday, today another load of laundry. I get 0 points for guessing four points and 0 points for tying the Bot. C’est la vie!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. In case of a draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
  • Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points: positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Contemporary Wordle Etymology

The word uvula comes from Latin, true uvula is the diminutive form of ūvameaning ‘grape’. The term uvula is inspired by the grape-like shape of this soft tissue structure that hangs down at the back of the throat. In essence, uvula means “little grape” in Latin, referring to its round, teardrop-like appearance. This term has been used in anatomy since the 17th century to describe that small, fleshy appendage.
