ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1253 Hints, clues and answers for Saturday November 23rd

It’s a lazy Sunday and of course I have plans, even though they are all quite fun. I take my kids to Bad this afternoon, which I am very happy about. I’ve seen the musical twice, once off-Broadway, once on Broadway (even this summer when I went to New York and saw four shows in two days!) and I’ve read Gregory Maguire’s books on which the musical is based based. Of course the books and the musical are all based on it The Wizard of Oz, originally a book (and series of books) by L. Frank Baum, and of course one of the most famous films of all time.

While I was in DC this summer, I went to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and saw the real Ruby Slippers that Dorothy (Judy Garland) wore in the movie. It was actually such an amazing experience. The entire exhibition, including costumes and props from films like Star Wars and TV shows like Sesame Street—was just incredible. Who ever said history can’t be fun?

Let’s solve this Wordle.

How to Solve Today’s Wordle

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

Wordle Bot gave me a skill rating of 99 today, which is a nice morale boost. STARE was a good opening guess, leaving me with just 26 words and two yellow boxes. I followed that up with MOIST because it was the first word that came to mind that moved the S and T to where I wanted them at the end of the word. This was also a good move. I now had 3 green squares and could only come up with one word: TWIST for the win! Turns out another word could have worked: WHIST. That would have rightly surprised me!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing three and 1 point for beating the Bot, who guessed four times today. 2 points for me! Huzzah!

How to play competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. In case of a draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
  • Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points: positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Contemporary Wordle Etymology

The word “twist” comes from Old English “twist”meaning ‘rope’ or ‘cord’, derived from Proto-Germanic “twistaz” (“a division, a fork”) and ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root “dwo-“meaning ‘two’, reflecting the idea of interweaving or twisting two things together.
