The race for the 2024 Heisman Trophy is on the line.

With just a few weeks left in the college football regular season, Colorado’s WR/CB hybrid Travis Hunter, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty appear to be leading the competition for this year’s award . On Saturday, Hunter, a key part of Colorado’s offense and defense, will join the No. 18-ranked Buffaloes for a matchup against Utah.

Deion Sanders has Colorado playing some of its best football right now as it is on a three-game winning streak and has won six of its past seven games. The Buffaloes’ only loss since Week 2 was a one-score loss to Kansas State, in which Colorado dealt with several injuries, including one that sidelined Hunter.

The more Colorado wins, the more noise it makes in the polls, and this matchup against Utah will be another opportunity to keep that momentum going. Saturday’s game is also another opportunity for quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Hunter to put on a show, as both have become elite-level prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft this season. In April, football fans could see both Sanders and Hunter in new uniforms at the next level.

The Buffaloes are ready against Utah, which had an injury-riddled season in 2024. The Utes’ QB1, senior Cameron Rising, went down with a hand injury in Week 2, returned later in October and then suffered a season-ending leg injury against Arizona State. Freshman Issac Wilson, the brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, filled Rising’s shoes for a few matchups but was later benched for sophomore Brandon Rose.

However, Rose also suffered a season-ending injury against BYU last week. Between the injuries to Rising, Rose, senior quarterback Sam Huard, wide receiver Money Parks and tight end Brant Kuithe, the Utes’ offense has been clobbered. Wilson, who now returns to the starting quarterback role, will be tasked with leading Utah through the final three games of the season, a stretch that begins with Saturday’s game against a talented Colorado squad.

12:47 pm – The Buffaloes’ momentum stalls a bit as Sanders is unable to convert on a 3rd and 7. Travis Hunter has yet to record his first reception and Colorado will punt for the first time in this game.

12:42 pm — Wilson starts his day completing just two of his five passes. Utah will punt again after three-and-out.

12:30 TOUCHDOWN — The ride marked a complete turnaround for Colorado. LaJohntay Wester managed to pick up 19 yards on third down, and the Buffaloes opted to go for it on a 4th-and-5. Instead of trying to make a short gain for a first down, Sanders throws it deep for Will Sheppard, who made a physical grab in the end zone.
