Tropical Depression 18 and the other tropical systems monitored by the NHC

The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring a number of systems, including Tropical Depression 18 that formed Monday morning.

Tropical Depression 18:

Tropical Depression 18 is expected to develop into Tropical Storm Rafael Monday afternoon or night, according to the NHC.

Development is expected as the system moves northwest with maximum sustained winds near 35 mph.

The tropical system is expected to remain west of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, move near Jamaica late Monday evening, pass over the Cayman Islands on Tuesday and approach Cuba on Wednesday.

While the system is not expected to directly impact the state, Central Florida is expected to feel some of its effects this week, including gusty winds and heavy rain.

Southwest Atlantic Ocean:

According to the NHC, an area of low pressure could develop in the northern Leeward Islands in the coming days.

Slow development of this system is possible as it moves westward over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean.

The system has a zero percent chance of development in the next 48 hours and a 20 percent chance in the next seven days.

Patty’s remains:

Called Tropical Storm Patty for short, it originally formed as a disturbance but later developed into a subtropical storm.

As the system grew, it briefly became Tropical Storm Patty, but quickly dissipated over the northeastern Atlantic Ocean.
