Tropical Storm Helene has formed in the Caribbean Sea and poses a major hurricane threat to the Gulf Coast of Florida.

In its 11 a.m. EDT warning Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Helene had become the eighth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm was centered about 180 miles (290 kilometers) east-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
