The Caribbean has several tropical systems that are emerging after a short calm period in the tropics. Both Tropical Storm Nadine and Tropical Storm Oscar have formed since 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Neither system poses an immediate threat to the United States, but Nadine could flood Central America in the coming days while Oscar brings rain to the Bahamas and Cuba.

N​adine: A Central American rainmaker

N​adine made landfall near Belize City, Belize with winds of 100 km per hour and a large rain shield stretching across the western Caribbean. Nadine emerged in the early morning hours of Saturday north of Honduras.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued from Belize City, Belize to Cancun, on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, meaning tropical storm conditions are expected this weekend.

Nadine will be pushed westward all weekend.

The system poses no threat to the United States.

Nadine’s biggest threat is heavy rain in Belize, Guatemala and southern and eastern Mexico.

Tropical Storm Oscar is forming near the Greater Antilles

Tropical Storm Oscar has formed just north of Hispaniola and near the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Turks and Caicos Islands, the southeastern Bahamas and for eastern Cuba, where tropical storm conditions are expected by Monday.

It will move west toward the eastern tip of Cuba and the central Bahamas this weekend, turning north over the Bahamas over the next week. Little to no impact from Oscar is expected in Florida.

Modest intensification is expected before Oscar approaches eastern Cuba, but given Oscar’s small size it could be vulnerable to large changes in intensity.

Gusty winds and several inches of rain are the most likely threats to parts of the Bahamas and eastern Cuba through Monday and Tuesday.
