Trump calls on military; Doug Emhoff campaigns for Kamala Harris

Trump criticized ABC News as “the worst network for dishonesty” and called the network “disgraceful” when asked if he still plans to participate in the Sept. 10 debate against Harris hosted by the network.

The former president, who is suing ABC for defamation, criticized the network’s host George Stephanopolous, contributor Donna Brazile and Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl for his interview yesterday with Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a Trump ally.

“When I saw the hostility of that, I thought, Why am I doing it? Let’s do it with another network,” he told NBC News in Falls Church, Virginia, after attending a wreath-laying ceremony this morning at Arlington National Cemetery on the third anniversary of the attack that killed 13 U.S. service members in Kabul during the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Trump suggested that the debate instead take place on NBC, CBS, Fox or CNN.

“I think ABC really should be left out of the equation,” he said. “I would much rather do it on NBC. I would much rather do it on CBS. Frankly, I think CBS is very unfair, but the best of the bunch, and I would certainly do it on Fox. I would even do it on CNN; I thought CNN was very fair to us last time.”

When asked if he would like the microphones to be muted during the debate when he is not speaking, Trump said he prefers to leave the microphones on. However, he claimed that both sides have agreed to mute them when the other candidate is speaking, similar to the rules during the Trump-Biden debate in June.

“I don’t know, I don’t care. I’d probably rather have it on, but the deal was it would be the same as last time,” Trump said. “In that case, it was muted. I didn’t like it last time, but it worked fine.”

“We’ve agreed on the same rules, the same regulations and the same specifications, and I think that’s probably what it should be, but they’re trying to change it,” he added. “The truth is they’re trying to get out of it because she doesn’t want to debate. She’s not a good debater, she’s not a smart person. She doesn’t want to debate.”

Harris campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said they have proposed leaving both candidates’ microphones on during the debate.

Trump indicated yesterday that he was considering withdrawing from the September 10 debate on ABC over the interview with Cotton, which he described as “ridiculous and biased.”

“They have a lot of questions to answer!!!” he wrote in a post on Truth Social last night, adding: “Stay tuned!!!”
