Trump-loving country star’s camp blames ‘wokeness’ for not making list of all-time greats

Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany have been open about their support for Donald Trump, and now they may be starting to look a little like him after the 2020 election.

Billboard.com recently launched the rankings of the 100 Greatest Country Artists of All Time, and Aldean did not make the cut. Looking at the list, you could definitely say maybe he should have. The man has had a nice career, and it’s still going, but there are some really good artists on the list as well. So it is difficult to circle the act that would be perfect for him. So this is often the case when creating a ranking of all-time greats. Difficult decisions have to be made.

But the Aldean camp is joking about his exclusion.

“Remember when I said it was a journey of standing up for what we believe in?” Brittany wrote on her Instagram Story: per Taste of the Countryas he shared a photo of Jason saying he wasn’t on the list. “This is a prime example of Jason being kept out of the industry. @billboard, your wokeness clearly takes precedence over your ability to give credit where it’s due, and it’s sad.

Aldean’s bassist, Tully Kennedy, was also unhappy about not making the cut.

‘It’s not always easy to stand up for what you believe in’ Kennedy wrote on Instagram. “I don’t know what’s funnier @billboard. How ridiculous this makes you seem, or the fact that you think it would bother us. Thank you for making that chip on our shoulder just a little bit bigger. Pour to make music and be on stage with you every night @jasonaldean. I love you brother.

Aldean responded to that message with “100.”

There’s a lot to explain here, but it’s worth noting that Hank Williams Jr. was in Billboard’s top 100, who is conservative and even attended the Alabama-Georgia game with Trump in September. So it seems unlikely that his political preferences would be forgiven while Aldean’s would be used against him.

“Wokeness,” and whatever that is, is probably not the answer here. That said, Aldean certainly seems to have the resume to argue he belonged.
