Two candidates for mayor of Tulsa cast their votes

TULSA, Okla. – Millions of people across the country and here in Oklahoma are casting their votes for a new president, but Tulsans are also choosing their next mayor.

There was news as the two mayoral candidates cast their ballots in hopes of becoming Tulsa’s next leader.

People lined up outside the Philbrook Museum. One of those voters is County Commissioner Karen Keith, who is awaiting results after the polls close Tuesday evening. We spoke to her after she cast her vote.

“I feel great. I am so excited to be here with all of you today and see what happens,” said Keith.

A few miles away, State Rep. Monroe Nichols cast his vote at the Centennial Center Auditorium. He walked from his house to the polling station. 2 The news caught up with him after he cast his vote.

Nichols told us he feels good about heading into Election Day, but is more grateful for his experiences on the campaign trail.

“It was really great to see the city in a very unique way that you only see when campaigning for mayor,” the District 72 representative said.

Both Keith and Monroe would like to thank everyone who fulfilled their civic duty.

“Boy, those long lines don’t make you feel good about democracy and coming out to make their voices heard,” Keith said.

“For a state with such low voter turnout, I’m very happy with all the early voting numbers, but there’s nothing like showing up on Election Day and voting,” Monroe said.

As a reminder, polling stations close at 7pm on Tuesday evening. If you are in line before 7 p.m., you can vote. Make sure you have the correct polling station and ID.
