BETHEL, Ohio (WXIX) – Two people are dead after emergency crews responded to a “major explosion” at a home, according to Bethel Tate Fire Chief Christopher Cooper.

According to the chief, several neighbors near the 3300 block of Vic Joy Drive called 911 starting at 8:44 a.m. about a one-story ranch house that was on fire.

While crews were en route, the chief said they noticed a “heavy” amount of debris.

“It was a large explosion that spread debris throughout the neighborhood,” Chief Cooper described.

He explained that two people are dead and a third person, a man, was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for burns.

The Bethel Tate Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating, Clermont County Sheriff Steve Leahy said.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office secured the crash scene and shut down traffic in the area to assist firefighters, he said.
