Injuries have been a problem for the Los Angeles Dodgers all season, but things have been looking up lately.

The club are now in the process of playing through their entire line-up, with only Austin Barnes on the injured list of their position players. Freddie Freeman is nursing a hairline fracture in his right middle finger, but he has remained active despite being on the bench for the past two games.

On the pitching side, Yoshinobu Yamamoto has begun his rehab assignment, while Tyler Glasnow has been more limited in his buildup. Brusdar Graterol avoided a season-ending hamstring injury despite initial fears he had suffered a complete tear, and Tony Gonsolin could also be a possibility to return this season, albeit a long shot.

Shohei Ohtani has also continued his rehabilitation as a pitcher, throwing his second bullpen session on Wednesday, August 28. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani is making good progress, but he still won’t be an option to pitch this year.

Tyler Glasnow

Just one day after Roberts was pessimistic about Glasnow’s recovery, he is now more optimistic and Glasnow is expected to return to pitching this week.

“He’s feeling better today,” Roberts said. “I think he’ll be back throwing on Friday, so he’ll travel with us to Phoenix and resume his throwing program. So if he does well then, we’ll see where he’s at.”

Glasnow had previously started throwing, but he did not feel well after his first session, causing his recovery to be delayed by the Dodgers.

“That was it, yeah,” Roberts said. “He played catch a couple days ago, but he didn’t come out great. So we feel like everything he’s done, the treatment, Friday is a good day to get him back.”

For Glasnow, the process is expected to continue to be slower, but he should return this season.

Jack Flaherty

The Dodgers got a big scare when Jack Flaherty was hit in the wrist by a comebacker during his start Tuesday night. He stayed in the game after assuring the Dodgers he was fine, and indicated he was more confident he would be fine after the game.

That was still the case on Wednesday and there are no concerns that this will have consequences for him in the future.

“I’ve seen him briefly, and his wrist is sore, but the swelling is minimal,” Roberts said. “So I don’t think it’s going to affect his side session or his next start.”

The Dodgers could still opt to give Flhaerty an extra day before his next start, but if that happens, they would have to call up another pitcher.

“I’m not sure,” Roberts said. “I don’t want to speak today because if that’s the case, then a drop-in is required. And so we’re talking about that now. So I don’t want to get into that right now.”

Brusdar Rasp

Graterol suffered a hamstring injury in his first game as a pitcher this year that was initially thought to be season-ending, but turned out to be less serious than initially thought.

Graterol is making a comeback and will soon take the final step before he can return to the Dodgers’ bullpen.

“I think Brusdar’s going to be on a mission pretty soon,” Roberts said. “It was a grade-A hamstring injury. He was sprinting. The bullpens are good, speed, good, so I just don’t see why we can’t send him out there pretty quickly and he can be a real talking point here in a week to 10 days.”

Austin-Barnes

Barnes is nursing a broken left big toe, but the Dodgers expect to have him back in action on Thursday, August 29. Barnes has been hitting a lot and is back on track.

Roberts believes Barnes is still on track for that plan, but if he can’t return, they may move the game to Friday.

“He’s doing well,” Roberts said. “There may be some discomfort, but I expect him to be in the lineup tomorrow. So if he’s not in it, he can’t play, we’ll move him to another day and start Feddy.

“But I think he will be in the lineup tomorrow.”

Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Yamamoto began his rehab assignment on Wednesday, pitching two innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He is expected to make another rehab start within a week, and a return could be an option after that.

“And then, five or six days later, he’ll do a three-inning situation,” Roberts said of Yamamoto’s first rehab start. “And from there, I think it’s a conversation of whether four innings to start makes sense for us, or whether he needs another start.”
