Tyra Banks owned the runway during the final moments of the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which took place nearly two decades after her last appearance at the event.

The supermodel, 50, proved she’s still got it at the Tuesday, October 15, showcase in New York City. Banks emerged from under the stage to close the show, wearing sparkly gray leggings paired with a silver bodice. The look was completed with a matching metallic cape.

As Banks walked down the runway, her cape flowed in the wind. After reaching the end of the catwalk, the supermodel twirled the cape in a spectacular manner. When the show ended, Banks was joined on stage by her fellow Victoria’s Secret angels.

Victoria’s Secret announced in August that Banks would join the models at the fashion show Gigi Hadid teamed up to confirm the event’s return after a six-year hiatus. In an Instagram video, Banks presented Hadid, 29, with an invitation to the show, adding, “See you soon.” Hadid then said, “I love you,” as she walked away.

The following month, Banks teased her upcoming fashion show appearance. “It feels crazy to be back on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk. I mean, cray-cray as in cray-cray good,” she said in a September TikTok video. “To be honest, I never thought I would be on this catwalk again. I remember – what was it like, 19 years ago – and I thought, ‘This is it.’ And I remember all the press: ‘Tyra’s… last… walk.’ It was so over the top and I thought, ‘I’m out.’

Banks then reflected on her most recent runway visit at Victoria’s Secret. “I had my last walk in this red outfit and I had medals around my waist,” she remembers. “I had hair that was super long, crazy long eyelashes and a scepter that said ‘V’ in my hand, and I got to the end of the runway and I kissed it and then I lifted it up and I started pumping, pumping and in In my head I thought: ‘I’m gone.’ But you pulled me back in.”

Banks walked her first fashion show for the brand in 1996. She made her last appearance on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk in 2005 before embarking on a television career.

Victoria’s Secret has found its wings and is ready to fly again. After a four-year hiatus, the lingerie and clothing brand is bringing back their Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show with more than a few familiar faces from the modeling industry. Gigi Hadid, Barbara Palvin, Ashley Graham, Candice Swanepoel, Taylor Hill and Jasmine Tookes are (…)

Banks’ return isn’t the only reason the 2024 fashion show made headlines. This year marked the first time the previously annual event had taken place since 2018. It was canceled in 2019 after the brand faced criticism for a lack of inclusivity. The company has since rebranded, and Banks helped lead the effort when the VS Collective — a more diverse group of spokespersons that replaced the Angels — launched in 2021.

“First is hard. The first is lonely. But first is necessary. The first is crucial so that a door can be opened for others to pass through,” Banks wrote via Instagram in June 2021. “Within a ten year period starting in 1995, I was the first ever Black @VictoriasSecret contract model. The first Black Victoria’s Secret cover model. The first Black VS model that did so many other groundbreaking things with the brand – and with other brands. But after the first, there must be a stream of more. A stream of different. A flow of uniqueness. A current so strong, a current of so many that we lose count.”

She concluded: “I retired from the catwalk sixteen years ago – and I’m proud to have witnessed a beauty revolution in my lifetime. I may have broken the door open for the new collective of cool ROLE models, but you’re all storming through. Keep going until we all LOSE count of how many people break through behind you.
