Uni Stats: Cougs rolls out charcoal jerseys against Utah State

Back in Pullman for the first time in three weeks, the Washington State Cougars will host the Utah State Aggies on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Since the game takes place at night, the Cougs have decided to go with their darker look, with their refreshing charcoal jerseys paired with an all-crimson lid and charcoal pants.

Ever since Jake Dickert announced the “phasing out” of the anthracite helmets, this seems to be the new go-to for a full anthracite look. Instead, I’m trading in the old charcoal helmet for a completely crimson helmet. This will be the sixth never-before-worn uniform set that WSU will debut this season.

Saturday will be the second time we get to see the new charcoal jerseys, after debuting them against Texas Tech earlier this season.

Although WSU has not worn the crimson-charcoal-charcoal uniform combination since the 2017 uniform refresh, they have worn it six times since the introduction of the charcoal jersey in 2011 and have an even record of 3-3. The last time WSU wore this combo was against Arizona State in 2015. It’s worth noting that the crimson helmets in those six games featured a white face mask, as opposed to the crimson face mask that WSU will wear this week.

The all-crimson helmet is 11-9 since its debut in 2016, and the charcoal pants are 13-12 since 2017, 3-0 this season.
