Users are experiencing significant issues accessing Reddit, with reports of outages flooding platforms like Down Detector since early this morning. By 7am, almost 2,000 complaints had been registered, indicating a serious disruption to services.

Error messages indicate serious problems

Instead of the usual downtime, many users are greeted with an alarming error message: “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reason for reset: connection error.” This suggests that the connection between various services within Reddit’s system failed or ended unexpectedly.

According to technical sources, this error is common in distributed systems, especially in systems built with Spring Boot applications in Java 11. The error is common in microservices architectures or in situations involving reverse proxies, which increases the complexity of Reddit’s infrastructure highlights.

User comments on social media

Frustrated users took to social media platforms to voice their concerns. One user commented: “Reddit subforums not available to anyone else? I can see the homepage of http://reddit.com, but I get a strange error message everywhere.” Another added: “Is Reddit just broken or something? Trying to look up something obscure, I tried to click on four reddit post links and they all led me to a strange error: how am I supposed to find answers to my strangely specific technical problems?

Global access issues confirmed

Reports indicate that users around the world are unable to access Reddit on both desktop and mobile apps. The platform currently displays error messages such as “no healthy upstream” and the aforementioned connection error warnings. Interestingly, Reddit’s status page claims that all systems are operational, despite persistent accessibility issues.

This isn’t the first time Reddit has encountered such issues. Similar outages occurred in September and August, both of which were quickly resolved, with the company calling the situations “degraded performance for Reddit.” Users are now eagerly awaiting an official statement regarding the current issues.
