The United States women’s national team concludes its three-match international window in October against Argentina on Wednesday at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.

Emma Hayes’ side have recorded back-to-back 3-1 wins over Iceland in the past week, extending their winning streak to eight games.

Wednesday marks the final USWNT match on home soil for the Olympic champions in 2024.

The Americans wrap up their 2024 schedule in late November and early December with a trip to Europe to take on England and the Netherlands.

The focus for Wednesday’s match with Argentina will be on refining the many things that have happened under Hayes and starting a new shutout streak after back-to-back games with a concession for the second time this year.

Date: Wednesday October 30

The October international window went as the Americans had hoped.

They produced three goals in each win over Iceland, and in the process Hayes handed out some international debuts to a handful of drafted new players.

You could argue that the only negative point is the concession of one goal in each match against Iceland.

The USWNT entered October on a three-game shutout streak and a total of 12 clean sheets in 2024.

One of those shutouts came in February against Argentina in the Concacaf W Gold Cup. The Americans won that game 4-0.

The USWNT controlled all three matches with South American opposition in 2024. It defeated Argentina, Colombia and Brazil by an 8-0 margin, a statistic that is in line with the program’s history against teams from that continent.

According to US Soccer, the Americans have won 20 of their last 21 matches against CONMEBOL foes.

More squad rotation is expected from Hayes to keep her players fresh at the end of a rare run of friendlies of three games in one week.

Sophia Smith and Lynn Williams are likely to start up top again after appearing as substitutes on Sunday. The same goes for Rose Lavelle in midfield after her evening off. Lindsey Horan only played one half over the weekend, so she was also able to participate in Louisville from the start.

Wednesday’s game could have the most meaning for Emma Sears, the only player on the USWNT roster out of Racing Louisville of the NWSL. She scored in her first international appearance this weekend and should get some minutes in front of her home crowd.

Argentina has not met the high standards of the world’s top teams in 2024. Brazil lost 5-1, which was accompanied by a 4-0 defeat against the USWNT.

The South Americans are the 33rd team in the FIFA women’s rankings, 32 places behind the USWNT, who are expected to record another multi-goal victory in this period of friendlies in October.

Prediction: USWNT 3, Argentina 0
