UWS shooting: Police search for suspect in Central Park after man was shot in the leg in NYC’s Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — Police are searching for a suspect in Central Park after a man was shot on the Upper West Side Thursday morning.

It happened just before 9:30 a.m. at 69th Street and Columbus Avenue.

The 47-year-old victim was shot in the leg and shoulder by another man as he fled down 69th Street toward Central Park.

Police believe the suspect entered the subway at 72nd Street and Central Park West.

Authorities had turned off the power so officers could walk the tracks in case the suspect was hiding in the subway tunnel north of the station.

Some passengers had to be evacuated and the A/B/C/D trains were delayed due to the investigation. Metro service was restored shortly after 11 a.m

Investigators now believe the suspect left the subway through an emergency exit on 76th Street and are searching Central Park.

NYPD officers look at the subway schedule on 76th Street.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white hat, green jacket, blue underhoodie and carrying a black handgun.

West End Secondary School was closed for a short time after the shooting.

The shooting comes a week after two people were shot a few blocks away during trick-or-treating hours on Halloween.

The investigation into Thursday morning’s shooting is still ongoing.
