Warriors News: Dubs unveil new Golden Gate Bridge-inspired City Edition jerseys

In today’s DubHub:

The Golden State Warriors have unveiled their new 2024-25 City Edition jerseys, celebrating the Bay Area’s spirit of innovation with a design inspired by the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge features prominently along the side panels of the uniform, adding a signature touch to this year’s design.

The Warriors will debut these jerseys, along with a specially designed court, on Nov. 20 when they play the Atlanta Hawks at the Chase Center.

Draymond Green puts a defensive stamp on Klay Thompson’s big night | The Athletics

The Warriors currently have a defensive rating of 108.0, which ranks fourth in the league. That improvement in the league’s elite is due to improved perimeter personnel on the ball, better early-season performances from Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney and an extra emphasis from the coaching staff. But it’s also because Green appears to be a legitimate candidate for Defensive Player of the Year in the opening month, even if he’s not nearly the athlete and jumper he used to be.

“He was unreal,” Stephen Curry said. “Really motivated. He moves well. He is mentally locked up. Being the dog that he is, he has impacted the game on that end of the floor. Today was no different than I have felt all year. All the conversations we had were about how to stay mentally locked up and not let emotions get the better of us. He has been all-world defensively.”

“And so I asked him, ‘Bron, what would you do?’ Because I have on the table from Memphis (a three-year, $105 million contract),” Green shares. “I just signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the Warriors. So there’s a big money difference, no state taxes in Tennessee, a big money difference.

“And I talk to Bron about it and he says it’s hard to pass up the money, but he keeps coming back to everything Golden State means to me, everything I did there. And in the end, his advice was more like, “You just did something so special there, you have a chance to go on there and keep doing it? Why not. You can go to Memphis and do great things and you can possibly be the missing piece to do something special, but is it as special as all of you have done? Would that be as special as you all did?’

Ratings: NBA, Champions Classic, College Volleyball | Watching sports media

Tuesday’s Mavericks-Warriors NBA Cup group game, which marked Mavericks G Klay Thompson’s first game against his former team, averaged 2.14 million viewers on TNT – the network’s most-watched NBA game since Opening Night. Including ESPN, the Warriors have played in the two most-watched games since Opening Night, with their game against the Celtics last week also bringing in 2.14 million.

The Warriors’ narrow win, which initially peaked at 2.6 million viewers, rose 84% from last year’s Clippers-Nuggets (1.17 million). It was the top sports broadcast of an evening that included the College Basketball Champions Classic.

Giannis erupts for season-best 59 as Bucks outlast Pistons | ESPN

But Rivers was able to laugh about it after Antetokounmpo finished with 59 points in the Bucks’ 127-120 win over the Detroit Pistons. It was the highest total by any NBA player this season and five shy of Antetokounmpo’s career high of 64 last season against the Indiana Pacers.

“As a player I have seen many great matches. Obviously when you sit next to Dominique (Wilkins), you see a lot of great games,” Rivers said, referring to his former Atlanta Hawks teammate. “It’s funny how a coach thinks. We called a timeout and Giannis has 22 of our 24. This is not good. I think the exact opposite. We need to get someone else involved in this.

“After the match you realize how special this is. But during the game you panic.”

Victor Wembanyama lets it rip | The bell

We may have gotten a glimpse of that future on Wednesday night, when Wembanyama dropped his first career 50 in a 139-130 win over the Washington Wizards. Perhaps because it was a match against his former Metropolitans 92 teammate Bilal Coulibaly and compatriot Alex Sarr (or maybe not), Wemby chased his shot more aggressively than I’ve ever seen. He launched five 3s in just five and a half minutes in the first quarter. They opened the pump-and-drive game. The pump-and-drive play, in turn, generated even more 3s. Wemby finished the match with eight made 3s on 16 attempts; it was his third straight game with at least six deep balls and the most three-point attempts in a game in his career.

How Steph Curry spammed a classic Warriors pick-and-roll set to brag about Klay Thompson and the Mavericks

At 3:04 of the third quarter – after Curry did his part on defense by moving his feet laterally against Payton Pritchard and forcing a stop – Steve Kerr stood up to inform his players of the half-court set that he wanted them to do. walk. Without context, Kerr would look quite strange to the casual observer with his seemingly random hand gestures and rampant shouting to make his voice heard.

Kerr’s ‘silly’ hand gestures involved moving his right hand forward and back repeatedly, followed by a rolling motion with his two hands, while also shouting his terminology for the set. If you can read lips at a decent level, you can deduce what he was trying to say
