    It may be earlier than most fans are used to, but it’s time for the Apple Cup.

    The rival game between local rivals Washington and Washington State is normally held on the Friday after Thanksgiving. However, with the Huskies leaving the Pac-12, the two rivals have reached a new deal to schedule the annual game for both teams through 2028. This year, the game will be played in Seattle.

    Both teams enter the season 2-0, with more than just bragging rights up for grabs. The Huskies are coming off a 30-9 win over Eastern Michigan thanks to a 261-yard, four-touchdown performance from quarterback Will Rogers. Washington, which finished second last season, is in its first year under coach Jedd Fisch and has replaced much of his roster.

    The Cougars are coming off an impressive 37-16 win over Texas Tech and have outscored opponents 100-46 in their first two games. WSU quarterback John Mateer finished with 115 passing yards, 197 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Red Raiders.

    Washington won the Apple Cup last season on a game-winning 42-yard field goal by Grady Gross, making the Huskies 12-0 and denying the Huskies a bowl spot. The Huskies lead the all-time series 75-33-6.
