Watch Chappell Roan’s Debut with New Queer Country Song ‘The Giver’ on ‘SNL’

On Saturday night, pop star Chappell Roan made her “Saturday Night Live” debut as musical guest, performing a brand new song, a lesbian country song called “The Giver.”

Roan, known for songs “HOT TO GO!” and “Good luck, honey!” appeared on “SNL” on a big night — the episode was hosted by comedian John Mulaney and featured a special cameo from Vice President Kamala Harris.

Before her new song premiered, Roan took the stage dressed as the Bride of Frankenstein to sing the hit “Pink Pony Club” from her 2023 album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.”

The track was a crowd pleaser as the audience in Studio 8H sang along.

Then Roan returned to the stage in a country outfit with a pink and white print, blue bows and matching cowboy boots. Roan’s band and backup singers even had a country-western look.

The queer pop star launched into her new country song, complete with vibrant violin and an upbeat, upbeat tempo. But this country circuit is a little different than the typical; the catchy, very sapphic song is already considered by many to be a strange country song.

Opening the song, Roan sang, “There’s no antlers on the wall / But I do know mating calls / The stalls in the bars on Friday nights / I know the boys might need a card / But I can close my eyes / And have you wrapped around my fingers like that.”

Roan walked around, turned around, put on her seat belt, and got down on her knees while cartoon bears and other animals played on the screen behind her.

In her super-sensual chorus, Roan said, “Take it like a taker, ’cause baby, I’m a giver / Don’t need no help, ’cause baby, I deliver / Ain’t no country boy quitter / I get the job done.”

She shouted at the audience during the bridge, saying, “All the country boys who say you know how to treat a woman right? / Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right!’

And so Chappell Roan’s country era began.

And for her first country track, baby, she delivered.
