Watch: Dwight Howard’s Dancing with the Stars Salsa Performance Goes Viral

Dwight Howard has been talked about making a comeback since he last played in an NBA game in 2022. Many fans immediately recommend the five-time All-NBA First-Team selection when a team is short-staffed in midfield. Even though he’s not officially retired yet, the big man is taking a chance.

Howard plans to compete in Dancing with the Stars season 33 to showcase his rhythm and skills. The 38-year-old had relatively low expectations due to his 6-foot-10 frame. Nevertheless, he seemed at ease in the ballroom, surprising and wowing the audience with his debut performance.

On Tuesday night, Howard and partner Daniella Karagach entertained the judges with their salsa performance to the tune of Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It. The eight-time NBA All-Star displayed excellent mobility and instincts, along with a high level of energy and confidence.

With a total score of 22, he and Karagach tied for the second best result of the night. The audience seems to follow the judges, applauding Howard’s dexterity and surprising skill.

“In case anyone was wondering, Dwight Howard made his debut on Dancing with the Stars just AMAZING,” CBS Sports betting analyst Mackenzie Brooks posted on X, formerly of Twitter. “Dwight Howard can DANCE,” Annie Moore chimed in. “This season of DWTS is going to be so much fun.”

After his impressive debut on the show, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year is gaining a legion of fans and getting the recognition he deserves, even from some of the many haters he received during his divisive playing days.

Several athletes have stepped into the ballroom since the popular ABC program debuted in 2005, with 11 of them emerging as winners. However, the first overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft doesn’t seem to be the usual contender.

Considering that he is over a foot and a half taller than his dance partner, he would probably find it difficult to pull off the moves. It is fair to wonder why Howard is venturing into such unfamiliar territory.
