Pumas defeated Mazatlan 1–0 in the team’s last match, with Guillermo Martinez Ayala scoring from a penalty in the 82nd minute. The team had a 10-5 edge in total shots and a 5-0 edge in shots on goal.

These teams last met in October and drew 0-0, despite Monterrey scoring 16 shots to Pumas’ eight.

Both teams finished the regular season with identical records: 31 points from nine wins and four draws. The only difference was that Pumas had a +8 in goal difference, while Monterrey was only +7.

After this match, San Luis and Tigres UANL will head to Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Mexico City on December 1 for the second leg of this match.
