Can the Detroit Lions keep rolling in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans?

Sunday will be a different kind of test for a Lions team that has become accustomed to playing big games on big stages. The Lions decimated the Dallas Cowboys when they faced them in Fox’s Game of the Week and then followed that up with a huge divisional victory over the Minnesota Vikings when they were still slight underdogs, a rarity for Dan Campbell’s side these days. Even their game before that was a Monday Night Football showdown against the Seattle Seahawks.

This week the Lions will have to test their mental strength and ability to concentrate against an inferior opponent when they host a struggling Titans side.

The Titans have had issues throughout the team, but have especially struggled at the quarterback position. Will Levis has started every game for the Titans so far, but missed last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, with backup Mason Rudolph filling in. According to reports, Rudolph will likely get the start again against the Lions as Levis continues to recover. due to a shoulder injury and was considered doubtful all week.

Either way, the Lions will have a clear advantage at the quarterback position as Jared Goff has been one of the best players in the league this year and is a legitimate candidate for MVP.

The Titans are in Year 1 of a new regime after firing Mike Vrabel in the offseason and bringing in Brian Callahan for a more offense-oriented approach.

Lions vs. Titans prediction, picks, bets

Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press: I think this qualifies as a trap game. The Lions are one of the top three teams in football and the Titans are clearly not. The Lions are coming off a big division win against the Vikings and have showdowns against potential playoff teams the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans in the next two weeks. And they will be shorthanded at the receiver and defensive positions due to suspensions and injuries. Despite that, I don’t see the Lions losing this game. The Titans have a good defensive core, but they haven’t made enough game-changing plays this season to be considered one of the NFL’s best on that side of the ball. Tennessee needs to run the ball well and often to keep this game close, but the Lions simply have too much offensive firepower to blow a game like this at home. The choice: Lions 27, Titans 13.
