Georgia football outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss looked at recent history for the Bulldogs’ defense as it prepares to take on Florida and its freshman quarterback DJ Lagway on Saturday in Jacksonville.

“We’ve had trouble running quarterbacks in the past,” he said. “We have to prepare and know what is coming.”

Alabama’s Jalen Milroe threw for 374 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 117 yards and two more scores against Georgia in a 41-34 Bulldogs loss. Mississippi State’s Michael Van Buren, who can extend his play with his legs, passed for 306 and three touchdowns and was not sacked in a 41-31 win at Georgia.

Lagway, who has two starts this season, has four runs of 10 or more yards this season, with a season high of 22, according to cfbstats.com.

“The athlete that he is, you really have to stay in coverage because he can launch it and he can take it away while running,” safety Malaki Starks said. “You really have to be disciplined with your rush and also with your coverage.”

Lagway threw for 259 yards on 7-of-14 passing with an interception in a 48-20 win against Kentucky on Oct. 19 in the Gators’ final game.

“He has great size,” coach Kirby Smart said. “He’s got great arm strength. He has very good pocket mobility. He has a great offense around him. They’re doing well, running the ball and setting up shots from the run. If you’re stubborn about running it, you’ll be open to a lot of action shots.”

Freshman Jaden Baugh rushed for 106 yards and five touchdowns on 22 carries against Kentucky.

Georgia held Texas to just 259 yards of total offense in its 30-15 rout of then No. 1 Texas in the final game, but the Bulldogs still rank just sixth in the SEC in total defense at 304.9 yards per game .
