Weather Extra | Drought continues

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — The summer drought will transition into fall, though some rain will fall before the equinox. Rain looks set to be better in the mountains of West Virginia, where moister air from the Atlantic Ocean can be wrung out over Myrtle Beach before it makes its way down the western slopes.

It’s been a few days of bad weather in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Grand Strand has been battered by windy showers and pounding surf. All summer we’ve been hoping for rain from a tropical storm to help or cure the drought. Last week Francine didn’t come, and this week’s attempt at tropical rain from a storm that hit Myrtle Beach will only reach the mountains before it retreats.

After a chance of rain midweek, warm, dry weather will be common for weekend festivals. Sunshine and temperatures in the 80s should dominate for Fall Fest in the Village of Barboursville and Poage Landing Days in Ashland and the Jackson Apple Festival.
