Weather in Britain: Temperatures drop after gloomy start to November | British news

According to the Met Office, it may be time to get out the winter woollies as it starts to get colder in Britain this week.

After one gloomy start to November With fog, drizzle and low cloud, this weekend will bring clearer skies and lower temperatures.

Frost is expected in north Wales, northern and north-west England and Scotland on Tuesday evening, with daily maximum temperatures between 8 degrees Celsius in Scotland and 11 degrees Celsius in the south.

A northern breeze could also cause an extra feeling of temperature from Saturday, with a chance of snow in the Scottish Highlands, among other places.

Met Office meteorologist Zoe Hutin said: ‘It will be chillier, especially during the night, but also during the day.

“It’s down to the clear skies – I’m sure we’re all grateful for a bit of sunshine today – and also the northerly winds blowing slightly cold air across the British Isles.

“There is a chance of some snow from the weekend onwards, but nowhere that we wouldn’t expect at this time of year.”

She said snow in London was “not completely out of the question” but the chances of it happening were “very, very low”.

Where has the sun gone?

“I think it’s fairly confident to say that snow is unlikely to fall in the south of England,” Hutin said.

Many weather stations in England and East Wales have seen no sunshine at all for the first eight days of this month.

Forecasters called the gloomy weather “anticyclonic gloom”.

The Met Office has said the phenomenon resulted in Britain experiencing an average of just three hours of sunshine in the seven days to last Thursday.
