Weather Service issues freeze warning for parts of Delaware

Frigid weather has arrived in several Mid-Atlantic states, with parts of Delaware soon under a freeze warning, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

The freeze warning is in effect Monday from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. for northern, central and southern Delaware, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 90 degrees in the First State.

Weather officials warn that these freezing conditions could damage or kill crops and other delicate vegetation. Unprotected outdoor pipes can also be at risk.

Residents are urged to “take steps now to protect vulnerable plants,” the National Weather Service said in its Sunday update against the cold.

The freeze warning follows a freeze warning for New Castle and Kent counties, which predicted a likelihood of widespread freezing temperatures. A freeze alert is activated when low temperatures endanger plants, crops and sensitive vegetation.
