No. 11 Texas A&M football hits the road to take on South Carolina in another primetime SEC showdown.

The Aggies (7-1, 5-0) are among the matchup winners of seven in a row and sit alone atop the SEC as the only remaining undefeated within the conference. The Gamecocks (4-3, 2-3) defeated Oklahoma on Oct. 19 before a bye last week.

Marcel Reed starts under center for the Aggies.

A&M coach Mike Elko was quiet about the position after a stellar performance by Reed, the backup quarterback, in the second half last week that pushed the Aggies over the LSU Tigers. Now the Aggies turn their attention to a Gamecocks team that has played better than its record suggests after losing to Alabama and LSU by a combined five points.

The Aggies hope to avoid any mistakes while maintaining the inside track in the conference title game. The Gamecocks faithful will be in full force in a house that a few years ago hosted an upset of Tennessee in November that dashed Volunteers College Football Playoff hopes.

A bad tackle and a 15-yard personal foul on the sideline allowed South Carolina to once again travel down the field in the Aggies’ defense. However, A&M toughened up inside the 10-yard line, forcing the Gamecocks to settle for a 25-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-6.

After a fumble by cornerback Will Lee III and recovered by defensive back B.J. Mayes, the Aggies’ offense found some momentum before stalling and settling for another Bond field goal. This time he was good from 55 meters and brought the lead back to 14-6.

Faced with another fourth-and-short situation, A&M opts to add points rather than risk another turnover on downs. Kicker Randy Bond’s effort is good from 52 meters out and cuts the lead to 14-3.

The Aggies followed up the Gamecocks’ opening possession score with an aggressive fourth down call on their own side of the field. They failed to convert and set up South Carolina at the A&M 34-yard line. It took the Gamecocks two plays to score again, this time from 15 yards out to Joshua Simon to extend the lead to 14-0.

The Aggies won the toss and elected to defer, giving the Gamecocks the first offensive drive of the night. South Carolina took the ball and cashed in with an 11-play, 75-yard drive, capped by a 23-yard touchdown run by quarterback LaNorris Sellers to take an early 7-0 lead.

Marcel Reed gets the start

There was a lot of discussion all week about whether Conner Weigman or Marcel Reed would start this week. As the Aggies offense prepares to take on the Gamecocks, Reed gets the nod under center.

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Predictions

Tony Catalina: Texas A&M 24, South Carolina 14. This looks to be another tough test for the Aggies, as the Gamecocks excel at stopping the things A&M does best. Williams-Brice Stadium is a hostile environment, and at a primetime game the crowd will no doubt be at their fullest. Texas A&M will have to weather the storm, but is capable of doing so and enters its second bye week still undefeated in the SEC.

Carlo Golden: Texas A&M 24, South Carolina 20. The Aggies pulled one out of the fire with the use of backup QB Marcell Reed against LSU, but the Gamecocks are easily one of the most dangerous home opponents in the SEC. Just like last week, the Aggie defense comes up with some timely turnovers in the second half to secure the win.
