Weekend forecast: occasional rain

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – There is a good chance of showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half of the area. More rain will be possible next week as we move into an active weather pattern. Temperatures will be mostly seasonal this weekend and next week.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy, cool and windy with a south-easterly wind of 10 to 30 km/h and gusts up to 30 km/h. Low temperatures will be in the mid 20s to mid 40s, with high temperatures in the mid 50s to mid 60s. The western third of Nebraska appears to have a slight chance of rain or will be dry for the first half of the weekend. Central and eastern Nebraska should be mostly cloudy with a 20 to 30% chance of rain in the morning, then a 60% chance of showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rain chances appear to decrease in the evening for central Nebraska, but rain remains likely in the eastern third.

A warm front will move northward over the area on Sunday. It should be breezy again and not so cool. Low temperatures will be in the upper 30s to mid 50s, with high temperatures in the mid 50s to low 70s. Winds look to be southeasterly at 6 to 20 mph with gusts up to 20 mph /o’clock. In the morning, fog and drizzle may occur in some areas, along with a 20 to 30% chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. That chance should last into the afternoon, before increasing to 40 to 60% across the area in the evening. A few to scattered severe thunderstorms are also possible Sunday and Sunday. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. A few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

A cold front will move through the area on Monday, as will an upper valley, leaving a chance of rain. It should also be fluffy. There remains a chance of rain in eastern Nebraska Tuesday morning, but the afternoon should be dry. More rain chances are forecast for Thursday and Friday.
