Weekend storms should not impact the Dodger’s World Series parade on Friday

Don’t worry, it looks like there’s nothing that can rain — literally — during the Dodger’s World Series championship parade Friday.

A weekend storm expected to bring the region’s first rainfall since May should not arrive in time to dampen any victory celebrations. The Dodgers won their eighth world title on Wednesday evening with a 7-6 victory over the New York Yankees.

The morning parade starts at 11 a.m. Friday at City Hall and ends on 5th Street, near Figueroa Street. The players of the world champion Dodgers drive through the streets in double-decker buses. This will be followed by a ticketed party at Dodger Stadium at 12:15 p.m.

The entire event should take place under clear skies – before rain is likely on Saturday.

“We don’t expect any precipitation tomorrow,” Ariel Cohen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, said Thursday morning. “Skies will be mostly sunny.”

But temperatures should be “a little cooler than normal,” Cohen said, with temperatures in the early morning near 50 degrees before rising into the 70s in the afternoon.

Saturday morning, Angelenos will feel the effects of the cold, wet storm system moving through California, dropping temperatures even further and bringing a 70% chance of rain across the region.

“There is still a good chance of light rain showers on Saturday,” Cohen said.

Any measurable rainfall would break downtown LA’s streak of 178 days without rain. That’s the seventh-longest stretch without rain since the late 1800s, said Mike Wofford, another National Weather Service meteorologist. LA’s most recent day of rain, when the city recorded 0.13 inches, was May 5.
