Westside teacher, 1 other dead after domestic violence shooting in Sarpy County

CHALCO, Neb. (WOWT) – A teacher at Westside High School is dead after a fatal shooting in a neighborhood southeast of 144th Street and Giles Road.

Rebecca Geiger, 45, was identified as one of the shooting victims, officials said at a news conference Monday.

The other victim has not yet been named.

Police responded to the area around South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway around 3 a.m. Monday. They received a call from a woman who said her father had shot her mother and that he had pointed a gun at her.

Authorities say they had been to the home about a month earlier for an incident and were told not to return.

After they arrived on scene Monday, gunfire from someone rang through the window of the house. Officers allegedly fired back. They entered the home and found a victim. Life-saving measures were performed on the victim, but he was pronounced dead, officials said at the news conference.

Five officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, authorities said. None of them were injured.

Investigators are looking at body cameras worn by the officers, as well as cameras inside and outside the home.

An official with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Department told 6 News it started as a “domestic violence-related issue.”

6 News was first on scene Monday morning.

A press conference is planned for later in the day on Monday, authorities said.
