What can you expect when early voting begins?

play

We are exactly three weeks away from the 2024 US presidential election. Florida voters will vote for their presidential candidate, elect local candidates and decide on six state amendments.

While early voting is open in some states, most Floridians will have to wait until October 21 to cast their ballots. Those who prefer to vote by mail have until October 24 at 5 p.m. to submit their request to vote by mail.

Here’s when you can vote early and what to expect.

What is early voting?

Early voting is when someone casts their vote before Election Day. The process is more or less the same as November 5, with the same ballots being deposited into the same equipment used on the official date. The advantage is that the mandatory 10-day period gives you more flexibility when voting. That also means shorter lines – or in many cases no lines at all.

When is early voting in Florida?

Florida mandates that early voting begin on the tenth day before the election, but counties have the option to offer early voting up to fifteen days before the election. Early voting hours must be a minimum of eight hours per day, but may not exceed twelve hours.

Many counties, such as Escambia and Santa Rosa, are choosing to start on October 21, which is the earliest date allowed. The exact dates and times depend on the county, but you can find that information by going to your local Supervisor of Elections website and finding the early voting section.
