Featuring one of America’s favorite snacks, popcorn kernels will run across the screen and appear to be the last unpopped kernel. Here’s how to play the game.

Pop, pop, pop, pop goes the popcorn on Wednesday, as the global Google Doodle will offer the much-loved treat.

The interactive doodle goes live in the US on Wednesday at 12pm ET and features the classic treat in a fun game.

Popcorn is a popular treat in the U.S. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans consume approximately 14 billion gallons of popcorn per year. That’s an average of about 43 liters per person across the country.

In addition to the fun popcorn-themed art, users can also play a popcorn-themed game. Kernels from all over the world can compete against each other with one goal: not to break.

The doodle is available here for a limited time and runs until Thursday, September 26 at 11:59 PM ET.

How do I play the popcorn Google Doodle?

For users who want to be the last kernel standing, accessing the game is simple: clicking on the doodle starts the game. Once inside, people can choose to play solo or invite friends to play in what Google calls “squad mode.”

In Solo mode, players can choose a kernel with a special ability and appearance. They all have different skills to dodge projectiles and avoid being shot by Butter. Squad mode has the same functionality as solo mode, but allows players to play together with friends.

Once the game starts, people have one mission: survive. The arrow keys allow the kernels to run around the board to avoid being hit, the space bar is used to activate the kernel’s special ability when projectiles are nearby.

The last remaining kernel is the winner!

Google Doodles are designs that appear on Google’s homepage.

Google says the designs celebrate a “range of local and international topics,” ranging from holidays and anniversaries to groundbreaking individuals who have influenced culture.

Google Doodles come in many formats, including static illustrations, animations, slideshows, videos, and interactive games.

Who designs Google Doodles?

Google says the team behind Doodles consists of in-house artists called “Doodlers,” engineers, designers, program managers, marketers and cultural advisors.

“We also collaborate with local guest artists and creators from around the world to bring Doodles to life,” the company says on its website.
